Frogs are Spawning

There is some concern amongst natural historians that frogs are spawning early this year. This is not my experience as frog spawn appeared in our pond on the12th of March this year. Last year we had a mass of frog spawn in the 1st of March. That seems about the same time to me.
One thing I have noticed is that the frogs are more alert to danger this year, and there are fewer of them at present. During the Spawning last year the pond was heaving with frogs, This year there are perhaps between 10 and 12 frogs in the pond at any one time and they quickly dive under the surface at the slightest disturbance. It has been very difficult to get a good picture of them this year.
One very early event this year is the flowering of the daises No doubt this one has now gone now, since Rosie has just mown the lawn for its first cut of the year.

Are you sure that isn't a crocodile in your pond? In Picture 2 it looks just like a couple of crocodile eyes peering at us from the surface of the water! Helen
