Whilst in the garden, this fly caught my eye. It has thoracic markings like a female
Graphomyia maculata, but its abdomen has an unusual spotted pattern. It also lacks the white spectacles around the compound eyes. There are not many creatures that I cannot identify, but this one has me puzzled.
So, off we went for a walk. I caught sight of this beasty behind a pile of logs - is it a cat! It doesn't seem to move - Ah! - its a burnt tree root in the shape of a cat. Not a good day for seeing what I am looking at today.
