Emu !

Whist driving along the A52 in Staffordshire, the last thing you expect to see is a field full of Emus.  Well, it takes all sorts to make a day interesting and this bunch of big birds was an unusual sight off the junction of the A52 and the A522 just east of Werrington, at Blakeney.
I have not seen so many Emus in a single place.  They are clearly very secure in a reinforced compound and under constant surveillance.

Blackbrook Zoo just a little way up the road has a fine pair of Emus.  I was somewhat surprised to find out how many of these large flightless birds there are registered in the UK.  Staffordshire is not short in its numbers either, but they are not always as visible as those we saw today.
