Waterbirds

Today we were shop-hopping to find a new cutting blade for our lawnmower.  We eventually found one and by that time it was mid-day.  Stopping at Westport Lakes in Stoke, we had some lunch at the centre and then walked around the lakeside.  It had been raining most of the morning and here we had a brief spell of dry cloudy weather, so we had to take advantage of the calm conditions.

There are Great Crested Grebe on the lake and I am always impressed with the style of these underwater feeders.  They are so photogenic.
Canada Geese were swimming on the lake in large numbers and many of them were flying in groups.  It was a good opportunity to photograph these birds in low level flight.  They were flying across the lake and landing nearby.
For large waterfowl, they are quite graceful in flight, just a bit ungainly when making a landing.
