Newts

Having cleaned out the pond, it is now easier to see what is in there.  Our pond has been the home of newts as long as we have lived here, and there are a few photos of its inhabitants.

Newt emerging from under a cavity in a brick
Hunting in the pond weed for invertebrate prey.
Resting at the surface on the stem of a lilly leaf.
Swimming below the reflection of leaves on the water surface.
OK, this one is a frog, which is becoming a rare visitor.  We used to have large numbers of frogs, but as more gardens have ponds and there are increasing numbers of predators about, fewer frogs are visiting our pond.
