Planting out

The garden is starting to come to life again.  The paths have been tidied and we have lots of Foxgloves and Bistort in the central beds just starting to put up flower stems.

The top lawn is looking good now that the badger damage has been fixed and the grass mown.

I am in the process of planting out the raised beds. The badger fencing has gone all metal in an attempt to protect the potatoes and courgettes.  I have also planted out French beans and peas under a steel mesh to prevent them being dug up.

The old canes from the previous badger fencing have been utilised and pea sticks and I have tidied up the strawberries along the edge of the bed.

Something new for the rock doves - two of them have mastered feeding from the small bird feeders.  They have learned to hang on and flap their wings to be able to extract numerous sunflower hearts from the feeder at a time.  I have not seen this behaviour before in such a heavy bird.

The newts are still active in the pond and also around the garden.  I found one in an old pile of bricks this morning.

Spring is here!
