Whilst Strolling along the Canalside at Consall, we spotted a new Locomotive on the Churnet Valley Railway (CVR), near the Black Swan Pub.
This was the refurbished "Hotspur" TKh49 no. 2944. This 0-6-0 Freight Tank Engine was built by Foblok in Poland to work on Steel Freight in 1952. It was decommissioned in the 1990's and put up for sale or scrap. In 2011 it was owned at the Spa Valley Railway and was purchased for the Churnet Valley Railway in 2013 where it underwent extensive refurbishment. Using spare parts from TKh49 no. 2877 (1951) the engine was restored to full working condition by June 2014.
The engine is now running services at CVR, towing a fine set of BR carriages. 2877 is also awaiting refurbishment, so we may see more steam in service soon.
2944 at Cheddleton on 27 Feb this year.
