We are still in July and the heat stress has caused many trees to shed leaves.
This morning I raked the leaves up from the top lawn. There are also lots of leaves in the flower beds, on paths and in the pond, but they can wait a while.
This lot compacted into a tub full. Many of them have abscised in a green and dry state, some have turned autumn yellow. Most of the leaves are from our Liriodendron tree. It is known as a tulip tree or the yellow poplar. This is the North American species, but there is also a species from China which is becomong more cultivated. The flowers resemble a tulip flower and they are produced in mature trees (over 15 years old).
Looking at the tree, I expect a similar amount of leaf fall tomorrow.
